District Thane, India—Losing one’s hearing can be frightening and frustrating, as Anjani Patil learned at the early age of 55. A hearing impairment may leave one feeling isolated, left out of conversations and too embarrassed to ask people to keep repeating themselves. It poses risks too, as a hearing impairment can affect one’s balance.
In early 2009, Anjani began having trouble hearing what people were saying to her. As her hearing grew worse, she became more and more distressed, and the doctors she visited could not help her.
Then, in March 2010 Anjani came to PRASAD Chikitsa’s Anukampaa Health Center. The doctors there referred her to our Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist, Dr. Vijay Jadhav. He discovered that Anjani’s hearing loss could be reversed through surgery.
Dr. Jadhev performed a special procedure that restored Anjani’s hearing, and her wellbeing. This success story is another good example of the comprehensive, quality medical care provided by PRASAD.
Editor’s note: By July of 2010, the ENT program had already served 244 patients.
