Giving and the Art of Having Fun

Gorad, India—The PRASAD Arts and Crafts team had searched for creative ways to encourage more children to attend their program of arts, crafts, and cultural activities. They decided to show the children that the Arts and Crafts Studio is a fun place, not just a classroom.

Doing all of the work themselves, the PRASAD Arts and Crafts team transformed a small plot of land into a park where children can play Frisbee™ and jump rope after their lessons.

The team salvaged the playground equipment and then turned their hands to gardening, excavating and pouring concrete.

They even built benches under the trees, where children can sit quietly in the shade and lose themselves in books borrowed from PRASAD’s new Jnaneshwari Children’s Library.

Now, attendance in the Arts and Crafts Program is up and Gorad Park bustles with happy children who enjoy using the slide and other playground equipment that they had only seen before in pictures!

It is inspiring to see how much this team accomplished with such minimal resources. Amid so much poverty, a playground is a great treat for the children of Gorad. It gives them a chance to truly be children, and play each day.

The PRASAD Project is working hard to create a more secure and enjoyable future for these children, and you can help by making a donation now. On behalf of the children, we thank you for your contribution.
