The Joy of Learning: Awards Program Motivates Students
Every July, at the start of the school year in the Tansa Valley, PRASAD
Chikitsa staff travel to area schools to present awards to students who
have done well academically the previous year. In 2007 PRASAD Chikitsa
presented a total of 403 students in 43 schools with prizes for academic
excellence. It takes two to three weeks to give out the prizes, since
there are so many schools. “We used to do the awards program at
PRASAD Chikitsa,” said Col. Rohit Tewari, general manager. “Then
in 2005, we began bringing the program to the schools, making it a community
event with parents, teachers, self-help group members and all the students
participating. This approach has resulted in an increase in motivational
levels and in improved marks of the students.”
In addition to giving out the awards, educational materials are distributed
to schools in need, as well as to individual students in need. In 2007,
nine schools and a total of 904 students were provided with materials
and supplies.
The following photos of the awards program presentations and activities demonstrate just how involved the entire community has become in supporting their students.
