Widow’s Sight and Self-Sufficiency Are Restored

Bhima Chima Bhoir is a widow staying at Parol. Her husband died three years ago, and her two sons are now married and living with their families. Alone and with no means of support, she has had to work as a day laborer at the brick factory in order to have money for food.

About a year ago, she started having decreased vision in both her eyes, making it harder to work and take care of herself. She knew about the PRASAD Chikitsa eye camps and about the hospital in Ganeshpuri because when her husband was alive, he had cataract surgery there - but she was afraid to go to the hospital by herself. When Netra Chikitsa program coordinator Gurunath Baliram Shelke came to her house as part of the eye camp’s outreach program, Bhima was happy to see him; it was Gurunath who convinced her reluctant husband to have the surgery six years before.

Now it was Bhima’s turn to be encouraged by Gurunath, and she agreed to go for the screening at the Parol camp at the end of March. She was operated on the next day at GSP Netra Chikitsa Eye Hospital. As her lovely smile in the post-surgery photo indicates, all went well. Bhima is very thankful to PRASAD Chikitsa for helping her become self-sufficient again.
