World Aids Day—Prasad Chikitsa gets award for its HIV/AIDS work
Thane, Nov 30 : Prasad Chikitsa, a wing of Gurudev Siddha Peeth from the temple town of Ganeshpuri, has been selected by Maharashtra government for the award for its good work in the field of HIV/AIDS in the district. The award will be presented to Chikitsa at a state function on HIV/AIDs to be held here tomorrow. Chikitsa, in a release here, said they had received a communication from the state government stating that the government appreciated the excellent work being done by the Prasad Chikitsa in rural area of Thane district and hence the award.

The release further said Chikitsa’s initiatives are offered in a 20 km radius from Ganeshpuri, to an estimated rural population of more than 1,60,000 people living in 360 villages and padas in the Tansa Valley. Adivasi people, most of who live below the poverty line, make up a large percentage of this population.

Speaking about the HIV/AIDs programme, the trustees told this correspondent that Chikitsa’s HIV/AIDS programme was established in 2005 to respond to an alarming increase in the number of men, women and children diagnosed with HIV/AIDS by their medical staff in the Tansa Valley. Currently, 20 skilled and committed staff members are working on the HIV programme.

They said till date, there were total 1,302 registered beneficiaries, including 157 children. Besides, there were 2,292 ICTC clients.
