"A True Expression of Generosity" Muktananda Mobile Hospital Celebrates 30 Years of Service!
In
early May of 1978, PRASAD’s Shree Muktananda Mobile Hospital welcomed
its first patients, beginning a tradition of taking medical services to
the people of India’s Tansa Valley that continues to this day.
To celebrate this important milestone in PRASAD’s history, a special celebration was held on May 6th, 2008, in Ganeshpuri, India, where PRASAD Chikitsa’s Gurudev Siddha Peeth Anukampa Health Center is located. The mobile hospital, which was festively decorated with garlands, palms and signs, was parked next to the Center for the day. Local residents, government officials, representatives of the media, and PRASAD staff and volunteers all took part in the day’s events.
The celebration began in the morning with a ceremonial ritual to honor the founders of PRASAD Chikitsa and the mobile hospital project. Representatives of PRASAD shared about the history of Muktananda Mobile Hospital, and patients who had come to the mobile hospital for treatment shared their stories and gratitude. Refreshments blessed during the opening ceremony also were distributed.
Throughout the day, the outpatient department of Anukampa Health Center provided free consultations, medicines and dental treatment to more than 150 men, women and children - about twice the number that came to the mobile hospital on its first day of operation 30 years before.
“This bus has been a godsend for impoverished people in this region,” said Jayram Krushna Patil, PRASAD Chikitsa’s paramedic and the coordinator for the mobile hospital. “It has not only benefited those in need, but also has taught lessons of compassion and humility to all those who have served at the mobile hospital. It has been a true expression of generosity for both those who receive and those who give.”
