The World Health Organization and the Indian government’s Revised National TB Control Program have recognized PRASAD Chikitsa’s TB Program as a Designated Microscopy and Treatment Center (DMC). Out of sixteen NGO* applicants, PRASAD was one of just two organizations to earn this distinction.
As a DMC, PRASAD’s TB Program will receive additional laboratory equipment and reimbursement for diagnostic supplies. In addition, the PRASAD staff will receive specialized training.
Dr. Pandey, who is in charge of the program, noted that, “TB claims a life every minute and accounts for more casualties than any other infectious disease in India. In our service area in the Tansa Valley, the problem is particularly acute because of the poor nutrition and lack of awareness about the disease. Our doctors at the Anukampaa Health Center treat 60-70 TB patients at any given time. Because of PRASAD’s effective care and consistent follow-up, our TB patients experience a cure rate of 96 percent, surpassing the government’s benchmark of 85 percent.” Read a recent case study…
March 24 is World TB Day and we invite you to support our cause by donating to PRASAD.
